LEANNE ROED

Designer and Artist

Hello! I'm a creative and practical game designer! I've been working in the games industry for 10 years and have released my own indie game called Cribbage With Grandpas. It was regularly featured on the Apple App Store and nominated for IndieCade 2017.

I'm currently a lead game designer at Gasket Games in Vancouver. I've taught and developed courses in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Typography at Vancouver Film School. Experimental and non-traditional games mean a lot to me; I founded and co-organize a 500+ member meetup group for developers and artists called Alt Games Vancouver and co-founded Heart Projector that has been creating curated exhibitions for people to come and experience together for over six years.

Less Than Three Interactive

Less Than Three Interactive is a company I started in 2016 to create unique games. Cribbage With Grandpas, it's first release, was a collaboration between myself and Justin Smith. I created the original concept, all of the artwork, UI/UX and gameplay design as well as managed the production and release.

It has been downloaded over 40,000 times, featured regularly on the Apple AppStore and was nominated for IndieCade 2017. From concept to market the project took about nine months.

Ultra Creative Games

Ultra Creative Games was a Vancouver start up whose goal was to create unique and immersive, quality educational games for kids age four to six. I was brought on as a senior game designer to create prototypes to pitch to our client. I led a small team in the creation of two prototypes; Monster Doctor and Creative Quest. Both prototypes were well received by testers and our internal teams.

DeNA Studios Vancouver

As a senior art lead at DeNA I led art production on large projects with powerful brands, working with in house and remote resources.

I worked on several titles before the company closed the Vancouver studio including G.I.JOE Battleground and Blood Brothers Puzzle Tactics. I pitched art styles and game concepts to the development team and provided feedback on all aspects of production.

More lovely folks!

Some of the other brands and studios I've worked with during my career! I've touched most aspects of game development from concept artwork to design to production. I'm not a programmer but I'm comfortable with scripting (c#, javascript) and with HTML/CSS. As a game designer I've been fortunate to gain experience creating prototypes, feature documentation, narrative and UI/UX design and I'm currently working on my data-driven and economy/progression skills.
